Area possibilities

We mostly provide internships in community pharmacy and research. Some internships in biochemical analysis laboratories and hospitals may also be available. Industry internships are very difficult to get, so we do not commit to industry internships.

Length of training periods

The majority of the internships last for 2 weeks, but the duration can range from 2 weeks to 1 month. The duration depends on the host city, type of internship and personal requests of the applicant.

You are welcome to stay with us for a longer period than the duration of your internship! We kindly request you share this information with APEF, Portugal LEOs.

Available months and cities
  • Coimbra - Community Pharmacy, Research and Biochemical Analysis (2 weeks)

  • Covilhã - Community Pharmacy, Hospital and Research (2 weeks)

  • Faro - Research (from 2 weeks to 1 month)

  • Lisboa - Community Pharmacy and Research (from 2 weeks to 1 month)

  • Porto - Community Pharmacy and Research (2 weeks)

We receive students from June to September, however, August has fewer places and July has more places.

Depending on the host, the internships can be more than 1 month.

Type accommodation

We will try to accommodate students in dormitories and the price will be approximately 5€-10€ per night, during the internship period. Be aware that, if special housing conditions are needed due to religious, physical or other restraints, the SEO should be warned in advance.

If there is no possibility of dormitory placements, we are willing to assist the student in finding other options, such as an Airbnb or a hostel. Please note that, in such cases, the accommodation price will be higher, according to the student's preferences.

Board, pocket money or other financial benefits/remuneration

No remuneration or pocket money is provided. Students are expected to cover all of their expenses including but not limited to accommodation, social activities, food and travels.

Language requirements

Knowledge of the English language is required for all the internship areas. For research, Hospital and Biochemical analysis, we give preference to students who have, at least, an upper-intermediate level of English.

Knowledge of basic Portuguese words is highly appreciated for everyday communication.
